Imphal, May 28 2018:
The cease work strike being spearheaded by the JAC of AMTUC and AMGEO has become more effective as the employees of Secretariat South Block and North Block joined the strike from today.
The cease work strike was launched demanding implementation of the recommendations of the 7th Central Pay Commission with respect to State Government employees and pensioners and the strike has completed 68 days today.
Representatives of the JAC had held three meetings with the Chief Minister on their demands and once with the Deputy Chief Minister who also holds the Finance portfolio.
Since the cease work strike was launched on March 22, employees of different Government offices have been staging protest demonstrations and they have not been performing their official duties even though they come to their offices.
It is said that the JAC's executive council would hold a meeting in the next couple of days and adopt a decision to further intensify the ongoing agitation.
So far, 97 Government offices have staged protest demonstrations on different dates on the common demand for 7th Pay.
Meanwhile, after they took half day mass casual leave from May 23 to 26, employees of Secretariat South Block and North Block joined the indefinite cease work strike from today.
Even though employees came to their offices, they did not do any official work thereby paralysing all the normal activities of the Secretariat.
Some departmental meetings which would be chaired or chaired by Ministers would be deferred on account of the strike.
With the employees staying away from their duties, there were very few visitors.
As such, the Secretariat looked quite deserted today.
