Citing the 'Sale of meat bye-laws of 1987', the Principal Secretary of MAHUD has written to the Commissioners of Imphal Municipality Corporation to ensure that the cited by laws are adhered to while selling meat in Imphal, especially in view of the COVID-19 pandemic.
The by-laws stipulate that any shop selling meat should be properly walled, meat to be kept in arranged places where flies cannot enter, premises of shops selling meat should not be used for residential purposes and all articles such as scales, knives etc to be properly washed.
Anyone who is not cleanly clad or is suffering from any infectious/contagious diseases or attending on anyone suffering from such ailments should not be allowed to enter the meat shop, added the bye law.
No animal should also be killed in the premises of the shop and the meat kept on sale should from a licensed slaughter house.
The instructions given in the by-laws have become all that more important in the face of the COVID-19 pandemic said the notification and added that action taken report should be submitted to the Government starting from May 4 .
