Khoupum cultural festival celebrated

Celebrating the auspicious occasion of Baisakhi, the Khongbung Battalion in association with Zeliangrong Students Union and the Khoupum Area Village Authority Committee (KAVAC) jointly organised the 1st Khoupum Cultural Festival yesterday at Vill Gaidimjang Part 1 of the Khoupum Subdivision, Noney district.
The festival organised under the aegis of Loktak Brigade and the Red Shield Division aimed at enhancing bonhomie and encouraging cultural exchange among different communities, said a statement issued by Kids Glory School.
The festival commenced with the traditional welcome prayer by Gaidjmang Baptist Church's Pastor followed by mesmerising welcome song by the children of Kids Glory School, said a statement issued by Kids Glory School.
It also maintained that Personnel of Indian Army performed a bhangra dance, followed by a traditional Naga dance.
Saying that the "Gatka", a high octane martial arts displayed using traditional sikh weapons was an instant hit amongst the masses, it added that a modern dance performance by the students of Don Bosco High School and another bhangra performance brought down the curtain.
The festival was followed by a free medical camp wherein the Army doctor and his team attended a total of 124 persons, it added.
The event was graced by Dipu Gangmei, Chief Education Officer, Tamenglong District; James Panni, SDO Khoupum; Micheal, SDC Khoupum; Athuan Raimei, Chairman KAVAC and other authority members and prominent dignitaries of the area.
