Imphal, October 27 2011:
Transporters and Drivers Forum of Manipur (TDFM) has alleged disparity in providing compensation to the owners whose vehicles have been damaged or burnt down during the ongoing economic blockade.
Speaking to some newspersons tonight, TDFM president Kh Inaoba contended that only 29 vehicles were listed as damaged or burnt in a report submitted to the Government by a transport organisation.
Informing that based on the report a committee has been constituted with Deputy Director of Transport as the chairman, Inaoba maintained that representatives of the Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution and a transport organisation are also in the Committee, which is supposed to discuss the issue of compensation on October 29 .
He also stated that the Government agreed on providing compensation to the vehicle owners after a TDFM team called on the Chief minister amid contradictory stand and objection by a transport body.
Attempt by TDFM representatives to settle differences with the Transport Department authorities did not materialise as the latter had been indifferent on the issue, Inaoba contended adding that only 29 vehicles were listed as damaged or burnt could be ascertained only today when TDFM members finally met Transport Department officials.
Claiming that nine trucks were found to have missing from the list submitted to the Government, he also provided details of all the nine vehicles along with their registration number and date of incident.
The TDFM president also urged the Government to ensure that owners of the nine trucks are extended the compensation amount along with the first list of 29 vehicles.
