Imphal, July 27 2014 :
All Manipur Muslim Development Organisation (AMMDO) has cautioned that legal action would be initiated against 'First Word' magazine Chief Advisor Sujit K Chakraborty if he fails to clarify on his report of joining 17 Manipuri Muslim youths to Al Qaeda.
Speaking to reporters at Manipur Press Club, AMMDO advisor KT Rahaman said that the magazine had reported in its July edition that 17 Muslim youths from Lilong had joined Al Qaeda for the first time in the North East region.
The report also mentioned about drug smugglers' financial support to these 17 youths in joining the terrorist group, KT Rahaman said.
Saying that they had conducted a field survey following the publication of the report, KT Rahaman said that the survey team had checked at the houses of the 17 listed people and the team found many of them at their houses while many names are mismatched with the address and father's name.
Maintaining that Deputy Chief Minister Gaikhangam had given a statement in the State Assembly on the issue, KT Rahaman said that some youths had also claimed their innocence by making clarifications.
He also rejected the claim of the magazine that drug smugglers had supported the new recruits.
On ILPS issue, KT Rahaman condemned arrest of agitators and their detention in the judicial custody.
He also demanded implementation of ILPS in the State.
