Imphal, June 27 2012:
Having noticed that PDS rice is being sold above Rs 600 per bag of 50 Kgs in the markets of Imphal, the CAF&PD has decided to go for mobile sale of the same PDS item so as to deter black marketing.
Speaking to media persons at his office this evening, CAF &PD Minister M Okendro informed that the new initiative was necessitated by the sale of rice at Rs 600 and more per bag which was earlier priced at Rs 470 .
Observing that the traders are selling rice at escalated prices after hoarding the same commodity, Okendro said that there would be mobile sale of rice at 10 different spots at Imphal from June 29 to July 8 .
There is a plan to go for similar mobile sale in other districts and Assembly segments.

For the mobile sale, one Kg of rice would be priced at Rs 9 and each customer can buy up to 15 Kilograms.
The spots identified for mobile sale of rice are Wahengbam Leikai parking, Sagolband parking, Churachandpur parking, Khoyathong parking, Thangal Bazar, Paona Bazar, Shamu Makhong, Andro Parking, ISBT Khuman Lampak and front portion of Imphal Municipal Council office.
Conceding that the price monitoring committee constituted by the Government seemed paralysed, Okendro informed that firms would be hired to find out the number of LPG consumers in Imphal East and Imphal West districts before introducing home delivery system.
The Government would also take a decision after the ongoing Assembly session to open fair price shops at all district headquarters which would be operational throughout the year.
Moreover, certain measures would be taken up to check fuel oils brought from outside the outside by oil tankers before they are unloaded at the IOC depot, Okendro said.
