Imphal, November 26 2016:
The Manipur Pradesh Trinamool Congress Youth Committee (MPTCYC) has come out strongly against the decision of the BJP Government to demonetise Rs 500 and Rs 1000 notes and has decided to launch a series of agitations and rallies with the AITCC.
In a statement, MPTCYC said that far from checking black money, the sudden announcement of demonetising the Rs 500 and Rs 1000 notes have sent chaos and even led to deaths of the poorer section of the people, especially in the North Eastern States.
Alleging that information of the demonetisation move was leaked to the BJP earlier, the MPTCYC claimed that this was why BJP leaders deposited crores of rupees before November 8 .
Secondly there was large scale manipulation in the currency distribution by banks, alleged MPTCYC and questioned how some individuals managed to lay their hands on bundles of Rs 100 notes.
The bundles are then exchanged with the demonetised notes at a gain of 30 pc and 40 pc, it further alleged.
How did these people manage to withdraw these bundles from the banks when there is a cap on the withdrawal from the banks, it asked.
Instead of gaining against the US dollar, the rupee has dipped to its lowest, pointed out MPTCYC adding that the surgical strike on black money has misfired.
With the Government failing to study how the ATMs are distributed locality wise, the people are being forced to stand in long queues, resulting in the deaths of many, said MPTCYC and added that Prime Minister Narendra Modi should be booked for the loss of lives of the innocent people.
The Sangai Festival has also become a laughing stock as the Tourism Department failed to open currency exchange spots for the visitors and foreign Nationals, it alleged.
With the harvest season on, payment for the labour has also been put on hold, hitting the farmers the hardest, it said and added that to lodge a strong protest against the demonetisation move, Manipur Pradesh Trinamool Congress Youth Committee along with AITCC will launch a series of agitations and rallies.
