Tarini's husband petitions NHRC

Tourangbam (o) Tarini's husband Tourangbam Anilkumar has pleaded the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) to initiate action against Imphal West commando DSP Krishnatombi for assaulting his wife.
Anilkumar has submitted a petition to the commission in this regard yesterday.
In his petition, Anilkumar also pleaded the commission to direct the authority concerned to award adequate compensation to his wife.
The petition said that when Tarini was returning home after participating a torch rally on May 8 night, she witnessed a group of police commandos thrashing three youths at Sorbon Thingel Leirak at around 10.30 pm.
It further said that Tarini then approached the police team and tried to intervene pleading them to stop beating up the three youths.
The team led by DSP Krishnatombi suddenly turned their ire to Tarini and beat her with baton fracturing her left wrist.
Groaning in pain, Tarini collapsed on the ground, however the police commandos continued assaulting and kicking with their boots, Anilkumar alleged in his petition.
On May 9, Tarini began her fast demanding justice and punishment to the guilty police personnel.
However, she was arrested by the police on May 11 .
On May 12, Uripok locals formed a JAC to demand action against the erring police personnel.
Manipur police have refused to register an FIR based on their complaint regarding the incident, Anilkumar said.
