Imphal, October 25 2020:
All Tribal Students' Union Manipur (ATSUM) has deferred its proposed 48 hours bandh by 10 days.
The 48 hours bandh was scheduled to be imposed from tomorrow.
"In view of the State Government's sincere commitment and steps taken for early conduct of ADC Election on time and appeal to defer the agitation, the proposed 48 hours inter-State bandh and ban on construction works of National projects in the State which was scheduled to commence from 26th October has been deferred for 10 days," ATSUM said in a statement today.
This decision was taken today by ATSUM and its federating units during the 2nd round of talks with the Government.
The Government had issued a written assurance that it would consider ATSUM's demand for timely conduct of the ADC polls without further extension of the terms of ADC Members, it said.
ATSUM believes that the State Government will adopt a concrete decision for announcement of date of elections to the six ADCs in consultation with the relevant authorities within the given 10 days time.
If the State Government fails to adhere to its commitment, ATSUM will resume agitation on the expiry of the given 10 days time, it said.
The earlier talk held yesterday with TAH Minister Vungzagin Valte could not arrive at an agreement.
