Imphal, March 24 2013 :
Even though Look East Policy of India government is all set to be implemented supposedly to give boost to trade activities with South East Asian countries in no less than five years from now, Manipur is not going to gain anything from the policy unless the people have thorough knowledge about international trade and take up certain measures to boost border trade in the state, President of Moreh Chamber of Commerce V Sekhar, who is also the leader of Tamil Sangam, Moreh, has observed.
Speaking to Hueiyen Lanpao, Sekhar observed that instead of any benefit, there is high possibility for the Manipuris even losing the benefit of the existing border trade to others, since trade is not in their blood.
As a border state, Manipuris need to have proper knowledge of import and export.
In addition, they should know how they should give priority in the different types of trading according to the situation and agreement of Look East Policy.
In order to gain knowledge in the fields, Moreh Chamber of Commerce is planning to organise workshops and discussion sessions on border trade and import-export in business both at Imphal and Moreh.
At present, the population of Tamils in Moreh is approximately 4,500, out of which around 3,600 of have voting rights in the state, he said.
