Imphal, February 24 2014 :
A one-day workshop on election model code of conduct and election expenditure for political parties and media persons was held today at Classic Hotel.
The workshop was organised by the Chief Electoral Officer where Imphal West DC K Radhakumar spoke on the model code of conduct and Assistant CEO Peter Salam on election expenditure.
During the workshop, representatives of different political parties asked the CEO office to inform the public about the measures taken up to make the forthcoming Lok Sabha election free and fair.
They also urged to ensure that no voter is listed under more than one polling station.
Responding to the proposals/demands of political parties, CEO O Nabakishore publicity/awareness campaign about the Lok Sabha election would be launched from March 1.Moreover the CEO office is in possession of an equipment which detect double or multiple enrolment of a voter.
One primary reason for the reduced numbers of voters listed in this year's electoral roll as compared to previous year was removal of duplicate voters, said the CEO.
Speaking to media persons after the meeting, O Nabakishore informed that a meeting of the CEOs of Northeastern States was held yesterday at Guwahati and discussed about in how many phases the Lok Sabha election would be held in the region.
The meeting was presided by Deputy Election Commissioner Alok Sukla where the State CEO urged the Election Commission of India to hold the Lok Sabha election in Manipur before the onset of rainy season.
On the other hand, the CEO held a meeting with DCs and SPs at the conference hall of Old Secretariat, and the meeting discussed a number of issues related to the forthcoming election including security and accommodation.
For the Lok Sabha election, all polling stations would be arranged in proper manner and they would be kept neat and clean, Nabakishore added.
