Imphal, September 21 2019:
The JAC Against the 'Murder' of Ningthoujam Babysana Chanu has strongly condemned the State Government and the authorities concerned for failing to give permit to organise a meeting at THAU complex today.
A statement issued by the convenor of the JAC mentioned that an application seeking permit for the meeting, was sent to the office of the DC concerned on September 19 but even till 1 pm yesterday, the permit was not given owing to lack of staff at the DC office.
The JAC alleged that such suspicious absence of staff when there was no holiday, is a sign of the State Government's intervention and added that the announcement by the authorities that public meetings cannot be held without permit is a rather stupid and illogical move.
Preventing the meeting scheduled by the JAC is akin to robbing the people of the fundamental rights including the right to assemble given in the Indian Constitution, the JAC alleged.
On the other hand, the JAC pointed out the irony of the authorities in preventing any form of meeting planned by the JAC while allowing protests or sit-ins organised by some people in support of the authorities of Standard Robarth Hr Secondary School.
Accusing the Government of being partial and biased, the JAC urged the Government to prohibit every meeting or protests organised by both sides instead of showing favouritism.
It also condemned the act of projecting the JAC as acting against the law while projecting others as law abiding parties and added that such acts of the Government has raised even more suspicions regarding the truth behind the death of Babysana.
Cautioning that such acts of the authorities will only add fuel to the fire, the JAC demanded the Chief Minister to make sure the case is handled by the CBI at the earliest.
The JAC will not back off and instead, it will only intensify the protest and agitation for justice, it added.
