Training programme cum distribution of inputs for scheduled caste farmers held at Moirang

A one-day training programme cum distribution of inputs under Agricultural Development Action Plan (DAPSC Programme) for scheduled caste farmers in selected village of Manipur was held at Laikoipung Community Hall, Moirang Mairembam Leikai.
The function was organized by Central Agricultural University, Imphal under the sponsorship of ICAR, Indian Veterinary Research Institute, Izatnagar.
The function was attended by vice-chancellor, CAU Imphal, Prof M Premjit Singh as chief guest; retd principal Moirang College, A Sharatchandra Sharma as functional president and registrar, CAU Imphal, Prof K Momocha Singh as guest of honour.
In the function, mini rice mill, ducklings, chicks, pump sprayers, piglets, dairy cows and seeds were distributed to 200 beneficiaries of 4 different farmer clubs of Moirang.
In the technical session, Asst Prof COA, CAU, Imphal Dr N Norjit Singh and Scientist DOR CAU Imphal Dr R Joseph Koireng spoke on the topics 'Scientific Rearing of Livestock and Poultry' and 'Green fodder production in Manipur' respectively as resource persons to the farmers while 6 scientists of CAU Imphal also took part in the training programme.
Speaking at the occasion, vice-chancellor, Central Agricultural university (CAU), Prof M Premjit Singh said that integrated farmer programme is there in the State for sulf-sustenance in terms of food production while adding that farmers and the people must work sincerely for the growth and development of the State.
He further said that states cannot development without the valuable contribution of the farmers and they played major role in improving the economic health of the region.
He also stressed on the requirement of putting more efforts towards agriculture to meet the target of double income set by Indian Govt in 2022 adding that many eminent personalities from different walks of life are now focussing more on agriculture to live a self-sufficient life.
For Manipur, work to develop agri-tourism can be pushed with high intensity, specially in Moirang which has a rich tourist potential spot, to generate more employment for the youth, he added and expressed that CAU will extend all possible help to the farmers who want to contribute in the growth and development of the State through farming.
