NPP to field candidates in both seats

Imphal, February 19 2019: Ruling BJP's alliance National People's Party (NPP) would be fielding their own candidates in both the Inner Manipur PC and Outer Manipur PC.

Speaking to The Sangai Express today, NPP Manipur unit president Thangminlen Kipgen informed that all preparations have been completed to field candidates in both the Inner Manipur PC and Outer Manipur PC.

He said that names of a few prospective candidates who firmly believe in the party's principles have been short-listed and their names would be announced when the time is right.

Forging alliance with other parties, for instance BJP and contesting elections independently are different matters.

The two parties did not fight the State Assembly election of 2017 jointly rather they fought the election as friendly parties, Thangminlen said.

Claiming that some prospective candidates who sought tickets of other parties approached the NPPtoo, Thangminlen said that the party's candidates have been already identified.

Nowadays, regionalism is becoming more and more relevant and significant.

Regional forces were so strong on the issue of CAB 2016.AGP in Assam, MNF in Mizoram and NPF in Nagaland fought vehemently against CAB 2016 to save their respective States but there is no regional party in Manipur which can save the State, he lamented.

Although NPF won only four seats in the State Assembly election of 2017, the four MLAs took key roles in forming the incumbent Government.

As such, there is no regional party other than NPP which can save Manipur, he claimed.

Considering these facts, the NPP, out of sheer necessity, decided to field its own candidates in the Lok Sabha election, Thangminlen added.
