Imphal, August 17 2022:
A 15-day workshop on 'Lai Haraoba Shintak Sindamba Thouram' commenced today at Manipur Pandit Loishang, Palace Compound.
The workshop is being organised by Manipur Pandit Loishang (Maru Loishang).
Presenting the keynote address, Manipur Pandit Loishang Secretary, Ngangbam Ranjit Meetei categorically stated that culture and tradition are inevitable for the identification of a society.
He continued that in view of the degrading aspects of Lai Haraoba festival in today's society, the workshop has been organised by including students of schools, colleges, universities and researchers to enlighten them about the historical and cultural importance of Lai Haraoba festival.
The resolution to include them in the workshop has been taken after a detailed discussion with Pandit Achouba with the objective of preserving the indigenous norms of Lai Haraoba festival, he added.
He also maintained that the existence of indigenous organisations like Maiba Loishang, Pandit Loishang and so on has helped in promoting the culture and tradition of Manipuri society globally.
He further called for cohesive efforts to safeguard the sacred and traditional places of the State.
Jawaharlal Nehru Manipur Dance Academy Director, Pukhrambam Bilash Singh while speaking at the occasion expressed serious concern over the defiling of sacred rituals of Lai Haraoba festival by some priest and priestess alike and appealed to all concerned to safeguard and preserve the rich traditional heritage of Lai Haraoba.
