72nd Independence Day celebrated

Deputy Commissioner, Ukhrul Dr Harmit Singh Pahuja today unfurled the National flag at Bakshi ground Dungrei Hungpung Ukhrul as the chief guest of 72nd Independence Day celebration.
Dr Harmit Singh Pahuja while speaking at the occasion highlighted on the achievement and development in the country in the last 71 years and added that India is emerging as one of the fastest growing economy in the world.
He also urged the people of Ukhrul to participate in development process of the country by acting as a responsible citizen in building a strong nation.
Altogether 38 contingents including security forces and pipe band team of Assam Rifles participated in the Independence Day parade which was led by SDPO Chingai C Thotreithing, as parade commander at Bakshi Ground, Ukhrul.
Ukhrul ADC chairman Dickson Kumrah, Councilors, DLOs, Social organizations leaders and security officers of the district attended the celebration.
In Bishnupur district, the 72nd Independence Day was celebrated at Old Mini-Secretariat ground on August 15.DC Bisnupur district Pawan Yadav has inspected the colourful parade comprising 17 different contingents represented by the Educational institutes, Police, VDF, Home guards, NCC and Band party of JNV Bishnupur.
He also unfurled the tri-colour and took salute from different parade contingents as chief guest.
In Thoubal, the 72nd Independence Day was celebrated at Thoubal district headquarter.
The main function was held at the Mini-Secretariat Complex, Thoubal with much pomp and gaiety amidst large turnout of people.
DC Thoubal Haobam Rosita (IAS) unfurled the National flag and took the salute of 22 parade contingents including State police, Home guard, VDF, NCC cadets, students from various schools and cultural troupes.
The parade contingents were led by E Lalringum Pulamte (MPS) SDPO Yairipok.
In Jiribam, the 72nd Independence Day was celebrated by District Administration at the playground of Jiribam Higher Secondary School amidst general strike imposed by many stakeholders.
The celebration was begun with the hoisting of National flag by chief guest Robert Kshetrimayum (IAS), DC Jiribam amidst National Anthem at the background.
DC Robert also received the salute from the parade contingents of 87 th Bn CRPF, Civil Police and VDF.
Prize and awards were distributed to the position holders of march past and cultural programme competition while certificates of appreciation were also distributed to 59 sincere government employees.
