Liver congress : MLA stresses need for research works

Asserting that the incumbent CM empathizes with the plights of people, Konthoujam A/C MLA Dr Sapam Ranjan has urged the medical fraternity in the State to put forth their views and desires whenever necessary.
He was speaking as the chief guest at the inaugural function of "First Liver Congress" organized by Manipur Liver Research Foundation at Hotel Imphal, North AOC today.
Dr Ranjan who is also the Chairman of Tourism Corporation Limited also asked the medical fraternity to collectively pressurize the Government to earmark fund for research works while assuring that he will walk extra miles for the matter.
Observing that doing research works on different diseases and treatments has become very important in the State, he conveyed that he made a proposal for earmarking funds for the purpose in the Manipur Legislative Assembly session in the past.
He exuded confidence that it will materialize one day if the medical fraternity and all concerned collectively put pressure on the Government.
Ranjan then pointed out that liver diseases/ailments, more particularly those associated with alcoholism have become alarming in the State with l/3rd of the total population suffering from it and added that doing proper research on liver diseases and on its effective treatment forms will save many lives.
He also exuded confidence that the liver congress will go a long way towards enlightening broader and newer knowledge to the doctors and medical staff which in turn will also help in a big way in solving the health problems of Manipur.
Asserting that the incumbent Government is giving thrust to tourism sector in the State, the MLA further appealed the delegates coming from outside the State to attend the congress to promote the natural beauty of Manipur and the positive changes taking place in the State.
JNIMS's Director Dr Th Bhimo while delivering his presidential speech highlighted that the number of people having liver problems in the State is high among common man too other than alcoholics.
He informed that the co-infection of HIV/AIDS, Hepatitis B and Hepatitis C among the population is also high in the State.
Maintaining that a liver clinic was opened in the State from 2011, the Director expressed happiness that the liver clinic is still running very properly till today.
Health Services Director K Rajo Singh also attended the function as the guest of honour.
Delegates and resource persons from the State as well as from outside the State, spoke on various topics related with liver diseases and their treatment during the technical session.
