Public hearing on 'Manipur State Gender Policy' held

The first public hearing and discussion on the draft "Manipur State Gender Policy and Budgeting' was held today at the conference hall of Institute of Cooperative Management (ICM), Imphal.
Three domains were covered in the discussion which was chaired by Prof Binota Maibam, Chairperson, MSCW, including Education and Skill development, Healthcare system and Unorganised sector, said a statement released by Manipur State Commission for Women (MSCW) .
The draft policy framed by MSCW was presented to the general public consisting of representatives and stakeholders from different grassroots level organisations, researchers, academicians, students, interested persons besides other, added the statement.
The Chairperson remarked that every human being, irrespective of whether a woman, man or transgender must live a life filled with full of conviction and dignity and should not be discriminated or surpressed on the basis of gender or any other form of social construct, added the statement.
In order to close the gap that exist between line of gender, the State needs to be guided by a proper policy and so MSCW was taking the initiative to draft the 'State Gender Policy and Budgeting', she added.
The participants analysed the points in the draft thoroughly and suggested the change of the existing curriculum of the State in a gender sensitive and gender neutral manner including imparting sex education in schools; introducing Women Health Card; creation of separate units for women, children and transgender at hospitals and creation of separate ministry for women and child, added the statement.
After analysing the suggestions and incorporating the changes required, the second hearing on the Draft policy will be called very soon, also added the statement.
