AR develops first illuminated football ground

In an effort to promote games and sports in the region, Chandel Battalion of 26 Sector Assam Rifles under the aegis of IGAR (South) dedicated four flood lights to the Heigruntampak Football Ground during an inaugural event at Pallel today.
During regular interaction with the villager, Commandant Chandel Battalion stressed on the need of Games and Sports in daily life and took the initiative to provide adequate lighting to sports arenas to facilitate unhindered practice/training to the youth of Heigruntampak, Penaching, Kappam, Leipuntampak, Chumbang and other local villages of Pallel.
With installation of the flood lights, the young football players of the region will get an opportunity to play, conduct and witness football tournaments/training in day and night settings, said a statement of IGAR (S) .
The youth of these villages were not able to practice during daytime because of their hectic routine and considering this inconvenience, Assam Rifles took the responsibility to develop an in-house innovative lighting arrangement for the standard size football ground and provided 800 meters of heavy duty wiring, four sodium lamp flood lights and four spot lights, it stated.
The locals and youth under the guidance of village chief of Heigruntampak Solomon, procured and installed four 20 foot poles, laid 220V additional electricity connection for the load of the lighting arrangement.
During the event, the villagers extended their heartfelt gratitude to Chandel Battalion for their technical planning, guidance and support in providing heavy infrastructure for the football ground.
The event was attended by a total of 288 villagers including 174 men, 78 women and 36 children, added the statement.
