Seminar on Kachai lemon on Mar 16

Urkhul, March 14 2019:
NERAMAC in association with Rinrumlan Organic Producer Company Ltd and North Eastern Council is organizing a one day seminar on post GI activities for Kachai Lemon at TTA Hall Hamleikhong, Urkhul on March 16 .
Hopingson A Shimray, president Tangkhul Naga Long will attend the event as chief guest.
The aim of the workshop is to create awareness among the farmers about the usage of GI registration and legal rights adhering to it, said the organisers.
A resource person from GI registry office, Chennai is also attending the event along with other officials from respective departments like horticulture, agriculture.
Kachai Lemon is now among the exotic agricultural products from North-East India which has been accorded Geographical Indication (GI) Tag.
It is widely grown in the Kachai village about 16 kms north from Ukhrul district Headquarters.
Kachai Lemon is considered to be unique as it contains 51 percent ascorbic acid, the highest so far available in the realm of citrus fruits.
Other lemon varieties have only 20 to 30 percent of ascorbic acid .
The juice content is 36-56 ml per fruit.
The fruit bearing plants of Kachai Lemon look like flowering trees during harvesting time, simply beautiful, colourful and attractive to everyone.
