CM Biren meets Yangon counterpart : Need for visa on arrival mooted

Chief Minister N Biren met U Phyo Min Thein, Chief Minister of Yangon, Myanmar by the sideline of the two-day International conference at Yangon.
During the meeting yesterday at the residential office of the Yangon Chief Minister, N Biren highlighted the urgency to make Imphal-Mandalay-Yangon bus service functional and facilitate Visa on Arrival so as to strengthen the age-old relationship between Manipur and Myanmar.
In order to promote the relations and improve ties among the different communities in the two neighbourhoods, Biren said the pilgrims from Myanmar to Bodh Gaya can travel via Manipur.
Expressing willingness to open a trade centre at Yangon.
CM N Biren also requested his Yangon counterpart to extend cooperation when the matter is raised at the diplomatic level.
Yangon Chief Minister U Phyo Min Thein, through a translator in English, underscored the need to maintain good ties between Yangon and Southern Myanmar's neighbour Manipur.
Besides the social and cultural ties, the two entities also need to
cooperate for the development of technology and tourism, the CM said.
Chief Minister U Phyo Min Thein further said that there are about 200 sites relating to India in Mandalay and Yangon.
The Myanmar Govt is considering to improve these sites.
It will improve the relations between India and Myanmar.
Agriculture Minister of Yangon Region, U Han Htoon; Ambassador of India Vikram Misri, Principal Secretary Vineet Joshi and Manipur's Act East Policy convener RK Shivachandra were also present in the one-hour long meeting.
The two CMs also exchanged gifts during the meeting.
During his visit to Myanmar, CM N Biren also visited and offered prayer at the 2,500 years old Shwedagon Pagoda.
