World Population Fortnight

As part of World Population Day, District Health Society (DHS), Chandel organised World Population Fortnight under the theme "Khushhal parivar ka mantar, Do Bachao Mein teen saal ka antar" at multipurpose hall, district hospital today.
Dr.Romy Ngoru, Chief Medical Officer (CMO) cum Mission Director, DHS, Chandel, H Kobor, chairman, Rogi Kalayan Samiti (RKS) Monitoring of Chandel district hospital and Jasha Premi, district program manager, National Health Mission, Chandel graced the inaugural function as presidium members.
Speaking at the inaugural function, Dr Romy Ngoru said that India is the second most populous country in the world.
She maintained that unlike China where there is one child policy, there is no such stringent law in India to control the increasing population.
If the growth of population is unchecked, India's population will exceed China by 2026, she said.
The Central Government has launched several programmes to control the population in the country.
These programmes provide free seterilisation surgery, distribution of condoms and contraceptive pills, Dr Romy added.
H Kobor also said that the slogan "Small family is a happy family" should be encouraged.
He further said that as a part of the observation, sterilization surgery will be conducted from July 11 to July 24 under the guidance of specialist doctors in the district hospital where incentives will also be given to both spouses.
