Imphal, April 09 2016 :
Farmers of Manipur are yet to get all the rightful benefits of the Central sponsored schemes due to inability of the State Government and Department concerned, said Information Centre for Hill Areas Manipur president N Rajendro during the farmers' development programme at ICHAM office, Uripok.
The Central Government has launched various farmers' welfare schemes.
Unfortunately, farmers of Manipur are kept in dark about the large amounts of money which have been released by the Central Government.
Common people particularly farmers have the right to know as to where all the money has gone, N Rajendro.
He added that while farmers of other States are able to produce maximum sustainable yield throughout the year, farmers of Manipur could hardly produce seasonal crop yield.
If the farmers are availed with all the benefits under the Central sponsored schemes efficiently, Manipur can surpass all the other States in terms of agricultural produce.
"Our agricultural lands do not have proper drainage system, agricultural seeds and pesticides are not available on time.
Assurance of building a cold storage is yet to be put into action.
The State Government's wilful ignorance of the farmers' adversities is very disturbing.
Had the State Government implement all the promises by now, the farmers would not be living under such piteous situation," N Rajendro said.
Speaking at the programme, All Manipur Working Journalists' Union president Wangkhemcha Shyamjai said it is high time for the State Government to wake up and pay more heed to the people's grievances.
ICHAM has always worked for the welfare of the people without any boundary.
State media has been acknowledging the initiatives of ICHAM and would continue to do so in order to bring bigger and better change in society may be in hill districts or valley, Wangkhemcha Shyamjai stated.
ICHAM chief advisor Kangujam Madhumangol, Poumai Naga Union former president Dr PT Hitson Joso and KAMA Manipur vice president Atopi Kamei were also present at the programme.
In a bid to motivate farmers and workers, monetary aids provided by the Development of North Eastern Region (DONER) Ministry were also distributed to the beneficiaries.
