IRCS State branch: observes World Red cross Day

The Indian Red Cross Society, Manipur State branch observed World Red Cross Day on the theme "Keep Clapping for the Volunteers" at its State branch office in Imphal by offering floral tribute to the photograph of Sir Henry Dunant (born on May 8, 1828), founder of International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) and the recipient of the first Nobel Peace Prize today.
More than 50 officials and volunteers attended the function which was observed maintaining physical distance.
Volunteers of Imphal West and Thoubal district branches donated blood at RIMS and Thoubal District Hospital on this occasion while similar observations were held in all district branches.
Narendra Ningombam, member of Management Committee reminded of the remarkable services rendered by IRCS volunteers in Manipur, across the country and worldwide.
The press release stated that IRCS in Manipur started its campaign against COVID-19 from March 5 with Motorcycle and Cycle Rally.
Poster campaign, distribution of IEC materials, etc were continued in all 9 districts.
More than 5000 units of hand sanitizers, 2000 face masks and 1000 hand gloves have been distributed to volunteers, women vendors, orphan homes and rehab centres, it informed.
Dry rations and edible oil were also distributed to 242 widows of Ashagi Mangal project.
Additionally, the Thoubal District Branch, Manipur State, Indian Red Cross Society (IRCS) also celebrated World Red Cross Day and Red Crescent Day 2020 at Kshetri Sanglen today.
The celebration held with the theme "Keep clapping for volunteers" was attended by Assistant Commissioner, Thoubal, Lenin; chairman of Thoubal District Branch IRCS, Dr Ksh Manglem Singh; vice chairman, W Ibohal Singh; secretary, K Sadananda; first patron member, L Ibochou Singh; MC member Dr M Nara along with members and volunteers of the branch who also paid floral tributes to its founder.
Volunteers who are working at frontline in the battle against COVID-19, were also encouraged on the occasion, said a statement of the Thoubal District Branch, Manipur State IRCS.
