TKWO begins diamond jubilee celebration

A two-day diamond jubilee celebration of Thangmeiband Kabui Women's Organisation (TKWO) commenced from Wednesday at Namthanlong here.
The inaugural programme was attended by Thangmeiband MLA Kh Joykisan, TKWO president Ashimlu Remmei, Social Welfare deputy secretary Ganguilu Gangmei, ex-IMC deputy mayor Sujata Phaomei, TKWO founder Poushong Longmei Namthanlong 'Khullak' Gaimeinbung Kamei, TKWO founding joint secretary Ma-chamei Kamei and TKWO ex-president and advisor Aluraona Kamei as presidium members.
Speaking on the occasion, MLA Joykisan acknowledged the roles and responsibilities shouldered by the women's organisation in different issues of the state including the fight against addictive substances and further expressed hope of its proactive involvement in the progression of the society.
While stating that strength and bravery of Manipuri women is monumental and could not be described by mere words, he said that women have vital roles in development of the society.
The MLA also assured that the foundation stone of the organisation's building will be laid in January 2023 and the same will be handed over within the same year.
Later, Joykisan inaugurated the diamond jubilee monument of the organisation.
A two-minute silence was also observed as a mark of respect to the departed members of the organisation.
As a part of the celebration, Lungaiphun Palmei, who secured 5th position in Class XII commerce stream conducted by CoHSEM, was also felicitated.
