A joint meeting of representatives of notable art & culture organisations of the State as well as eminent scholars, artists and experts from this field have come together to form the Co-ordinating Committee for Cultural Fraternity Manipur (COCCFM) in view of the prevailing volatile situation in Manipur.
According to a statement, the joint meeting was held this morning at Iboyaima Shumang Leela Shanglen, Palace Compound and presided over by Kangjam Radhakumar Singh, former Commissioner of Art & Culture Department.
It may be noted that the Committee was constituted after a detailed discussion on the evolving crisis prevailing in Manipur with the objective of launching a series of agitations.
Kangjam Radhakumar Singh was appointed as the Chairman of the Committee; Sougrakpam Hemanta, SNA Awardee, lifetime secretary Manipur State Shumang Leela Council and Laimayum Surjakanta Sharma, president, Film Forum Manipur as the vice-presidents and Mayengbam Dhananjoy, secretary AMMIK as the convenor.
Altogether, 14 members were appointed.
The members of the Committee also resolved to constitute a 'Drafting Committee' to hash out the terms of a memorandum.
The Committee intends to submit this memorandum to Prime Minister Narendra Modi during a visit to New Delhi by a team led by renowned playwright Ratan Thiyam.
The gathering then observed a two-minute silence to honour the lives lost in the recent turmoil.
Further, COCCFM also resolved to organise a sit-in protest on June 10 near the entrance of Hapta Kangjeibung.
