Girl found dead under mysterious circumstances

A 19 year old girl was found dead inside a community pond of her locality under suspicious circumstances today morning at Langmeidong Mamang Leikai, Laiphrakpam Leirak under Waikhong police station, Thoubal district.
Anguished by the suspicious death, a mob dismantled the house of the alleged accused with whom the girl had eloped.
The deceased girl who was identified as Yumnam Rojita d/o (L) Y Ibomcha of Langmeidong Mamang Leikai, Laiphrakpam Leirak was found dead with her face turned downward at around 5 am by some local people and an alleged suicide note was found near the pond.
Sources informed that the girl eloped with a boy belonging to a locality within the jurisdiction of Waikhong police station about four months back and their marriage was fixed on October 21 and the preparations for their marriage were going on.
After they were informed about the discovery of the dead body, a police team of Waikhong station arrived at the spot and cordoned off the area and waited for the arrival of a forensic team.
After the arrival of the State forensic expert team, the dead body was pulled out from the pond after conducting inquest of the spot.
Surprisingly, a Moreh Chunni was found around her neck which raised a strong suspicion that she was strangled to death and thrown into the pond.
Many people also suspected the authenticity of the suicide note.
According to the victim's mother, she was chatting with her daughter till last night and she heard an incoming call on her daughter's phone at around 11 pm.
As she had no idea who the caller was, she asked her daughter to hang up the phone as it was late.
Then she went to sleep.
Later at around 2.30 pm today, angry people of the girl's neighbourhood stormed the residence of the youth with whom the girl's marriage was fixed and dismantled his house.
Soon police swung into action and brought the situation under control.
Police also pulled up the boy.
The corpse has been sent to JNIMS morgue for post mortem.
Meanwhile, a joint meeting of the clubs and Meira Paibis of Langmeidong and surrounding areas was held this afternoon and a joint action committee was constituted.
A press release issued by the JAC Against the Killing of Y Rojita Devi asserted that the corpse of Rojita would not be claimed until all the culprits involved in the killing of Rojita are pulled up and booked.
It informed that a protest demonstration would be staged at Langmeidong Bazar tomorrow which would be followed by a public meeting.
