Imphal, May 05 2013:
A one-day academic awareness programme on 'Prevention of Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking' organised by All Manipur Anti-Drug Association (AMADA) in association with Nongada Village Development Committee, Nongada meira Paibi and Eastern Lion Club, Nongada was held today at Kanhaimacha Ningsing Shanglen, Nongada.
Speaking as the chief guest, AMADA president M Padamini Leima expressed serious concern on the involvement of central and State security force personnel deployed in trafficking of illegal drugs in Manipur.
Regretting that continuous endeavour by AMADA and like-minded anti-drug campaigners to check substance abuse by the youths in the State has not been able to yield the desired result consequent to indulgence by security forces in illegal drug trade, she called upon the parents to maintain constant vigil in order to nurture a healthy Manipuri society.
Equating alleged lackadaisical attitude and approach of the State Government in effectively tackling the menace of drug/substance abuse to sacrificing the future generation of Manipur to adversary forces intent on suppressing the people of Manipur, Padamini demanded severest form of punitive against all those involved in smuggling of illegal drugs.
Opining that recent cases of security force personnel indulging in illegal drug trade is a grim reminder that sinister plot is to not only transform Manipur into a hub of illegal drug transaction but also destroy the upcoming generation, she reiterated call to all concerned for concerted effort and contribution towards saving the future of Manipuri society.
Representatives of aware programme co-organisers pledged unstinted support and cooperation in all the future endeavours of AMADA for checking menace of drug/substance abuse.
Among others officer in-charge of Lamlai police station W Devakumar also attended the programme.
