Kangpokpi, October 04 2018:
Deeply concerned with the 'slow-moving' construction of the vital Trans Asian Highway No 1 (NH-2) by the Bhartia Infra Private Limited (BIPL) and the Pubic Work Department National Highway Circle, Govt of Manipur, the Thadou Students' Association Sadar Hills has appealed both the authorities to complete the road construction work within October as a gift for Kut festival.
Despite of the PWD National Highway Circle, Govt of Manipur taking up the pothole mending and repairing works between Koubru Laikha and Tendonyang after intense pressure from the public and various civil bodies including TSA Sadar Hills, the pace of pothole mending and repairing works are nowhere near public expectation, asserted Gogou Thomsong, secretary information and publicity, TSA Sadar Hills.
Owing to the 'sluggish' execution of the repairing work, people are still reeling under wrath of dreaded dust and jolting ride owing to the dilapidated road condition along the highway.
The deteriorated conditions of the road has caused several mishap/accidents on several occasions rendering many precious lives in danger, he said.
He recalled that the State Govt had assured to repair the stretch from Koubru Laikha to Tendonyang at the earliest in response to pressure from TSA Sadar Hills through press in the month of June and subsequently engaged PWD NH Circle to execute the repairing works.
There may be natural factors responsible for the slow pace particularly during monsoon season but the current pace of work under such 'unenergetic' engineer and contractors is intolerable and unacceptable by the people who at the cost of health are waiting patiently for good road.
"It is a matter of mockery and a shame for the concerned department which takes more than half a year for repairing only 30 km stretch," said Thomsong.
He pointed out that the BIPL 'could not complete' the construction work from Koubru Laikha to Kangpokpi DHQs which is less than 15 kms in almost a year while most of the completed stretch had been worn out within a month of its completion rendering the road in the same old condition.
"Owing to the BIPL road construction activities the entire area from Koubru Laikha to Kangpokpi DHQs has been engulfed by monstrous dust breeding several diseases among the people including young school going children," he said.
However, despite all these public grievances and hardships, the BIPL's pace of work remained unchanged and the people suffer the same wrath of it till today alleged TSA Sadar Hills.
TSA Sadar Hills appealed both authorities to complete the construction work within October and present it to the people of Kangpokpi as 'Kut Gift' on Chavang Kut.
If the concerned authorities fail to accomplish its humble appeal within the stipulated time, it will be compel to come up with intense agitations, said the association.
Kangpokpi District is hosting the State Level Chavang Kut celebration on Nov 1 .
