As a part of the programme, UCM distributed winter seeds (rabi crops) to the participating farmers.
Delivering the keynote address, Joychandra Konthoujam asserted that Manipur can free itself of food dependency only when farmers of the State develop a collective work culture and produce enough food for all their needs.
In this regard, the State Government also needs to pay closer attention to the farming community and implement a long term policy.
Farmers should also adopt multiple cropping of seasonal crops, he maintained.
Further he sought the attention of the Government to address the issues of the farmers and provide them due benefits under various Governmental schemes for their upliftment.
