Imphal, April 02 2016 :
Decrying threat by some organisations regard-
ing the construction of a Church in Namthanlong Chini Ingkhol
(Chinikon) village, Senapati district, village chief Phaomei
Chingkhudunpou has appealed to the State CSOs to support the
village in safeguarding the age-old tradition, religion and culture
of the village.
In a statement, the village chief said that the village, which
has 62 households, has been upholding the original religion
Tingkao ragwang Chapriyak and traditions of Rongmei com-
munity.
Some villagers, who follow Christianity recently
demanded the village authority to construct a Church in a
reserve area of Tingkao Ragwang Chap-riyak in the village.
Since the village authority would not allow such construc-
tion in the reserved land, it asked the individuals to construct
the Church at another site, which the village authority agreed
to allot.
Unfortunately, the individuals have been demanding
the construction of a Church at their suitable site.
Moreover,
some organisations have also been threatening the village
authority giving their mandate in favour of Christian believers,
the village chief said in a statement.
The village chief appealed to all the CSOs to intervene and
help the village authority in safeguarding the indigenous religion, culture, tradition and identity of Rongmei community.
