Awareness and sensitization programme held

The District Social Welfare Office, thoubal and Nasha Mukt Bharat Campaign Committee, Thoubal along with the NSS Unit I and II of Universal College, Yairipok organised an awareness and sensitization programme on "Prevention of Substance Abuse and Alcoholism" at the Multipurpose hall of Universal College, Yairipok, today.
The programme was attended by Dr M Rajendra Singh, vice chairman Universal College Governing Body; Dr Laishram Randhoni Devi, Principal Universal College; Nasha Mukt Bharat Campaign Committee (NMBCC) member, Y Laksman Singh and Seram Asha Devi, Extension Officer of District Social Welfare Office Thoubal as presidium members.
Addressing the programme, Seram Asha Devi elaborated the objectives and activities carried out by the Nasha Mukt Bharat Campaign in Thoubal district and stated that students and youth are the target population of the campaign.
Y Laksman Singh stressed on the primary prevention of drug abuse, ill effects of drug abuse, various forms of addiction and the ways and means of receiving treatment in the Hospitals and Integrated Rehabilitation Centre for drug addicts.
Dr M Rajendra Singh mentioned the need to strictly impose the declaration of drug free institute at the college campus.
Dr Laishram Randhoni Devi expressed the need and importance of the awareness and education programme especially for the college students.
She also urged the students to say 'No to drugs' and maintain a healthy lifestyle and stated that NSS students have a big role to play in the prevention of drug abuse by forming Students Club in the college.
As a part of the programme, a symposium on the topic "What can I do to prevent Alcoholism and Substance Abuse" was also conducted in which Rohit Chingtham, Shougrakpam Debajit Singh and Sanahal Khagembam secured first, second and third positions.
The programme was concluded with the declaration of Drug Free College by the Principal of the college.
Likewise, as a part of the Nasha Mukt Bharat Campaign, a teachers and students training programme on "Drugs and Substance abuse" under the District Administration Bishnupur at Little Birds School, Moirang today.
It was attended by S Bira Singh, chairperson School Managing Committee; N Jotish Singh, DSWO Bishnupur and Dr L Pishak Singh, Director Childline Bishnupur as presidium members.
During the technical session, lectures on drugs were also delivered by S Rebika Devi, Program Coordinator NMBC Bishnupur; S Jotish Singh and Dr L Pishak Singh.
