Joint replacement surgery performed at Shija Hospitals

After having successfully performed the first Knee Replacement Surgery in the State in June 2012, Department of Orthopaedics, Shija Hospitals and Research Institute performed two knee replacement surgeries for the first time in any private hospital in the State by its in-house Orthopaedics surgeons on September 22.The joint replacement surgeries were performed by a team led by Dr Iboyaima Ph, Consultant Orthopaedic, Spine and Joint Replacement surgeon and Dr Ibobi L, Senior Consultant Orthopaedic, Spine and Arthroscopic Surgeon, Shija Hospitals.
With the successful joint replacement surgeries, the facility will be available at Shija Hospitals round the year and will be performed by its in-house surgeons .
The knee replacements surgeries were performed on two female patients aged 63 years and 62 years from Imphal West district.
The patients came with the complaint of severe pain in the knees and later they were diagnosed with Osteoarthritis knee.
Osteoarthritis is a type of joint disease that results from the breakdown of joint cartilage and underlying bone.
The most common symptoms are joint pain and stiffness.
The patients have suffered pain and difficulty in walking for many years .
The 62 years old patient had earlier undergone proximal tibial osteotomy with pinning surgery at some other centres with no significant pain relief to the patient.
For both the patient contralateral (other side) knee are also involved upto a lesser degree.
The problems in the other knee will be much better because of the operated knee .
Department of Orthopaedic, Shija Hospitals is today well equipped with MRI (to be commissioned shortly), 16 slice CT Scan, CR X-Ray, C-Arm and other necessary diagnostic tools.
The Department has two full time consultants with facilities for 24X7 emergency service, arthroscopic surgery, joint replacement surgery, spine surgery, trauma surgery and any orthopaedic related surgical intervention facility.
