Senapati, November 28 2016:
'To avert any disastrous consequences and to contain the fluid situation' in the State, the ADC members of Senapati have appealed to Chief Minister O Ibobi Singh to immediately 'release' the UNC leaders.
The Sadar Hills issue is not new, said the ADC members, and recalled how the State Government had to always retract from its earlier decision to declare the same as a district.
Moreover there are four MoUs which have been signed between the Government of Manipur and different Naga Civil Organizations at different points of time, added the ADC members.
All the MoUs mentioned that before taking any final decision, all the stakeholders shall be consulted.
Further, on November 2, 2011 at Senapati, the Chief Minister of Manipur, in the presence of Union Home Minister, reassured that no decision would be taken on the Sadar Hills matter without consulting all sections of the people and all the stakeholders, including the bodies representing the Nagas.
Disregarding these MoUs and the assurance given in connection with the creation of new districts recently when the State Government clandestinely attempted to declare Sadar Hills and Jiribam as full-fledged districts, the Naga Civil organizations spearheaded by the UNC, having no other option, resorted to economic blockade along all the routes leading to the State capital, said the ADC members.
Instead of addressing the grievances of the public and convincing the aggrieved party, the State Government arrested two UNC leaders which is wrong, they said.
If immediate remedial measures are not taken at the earliest there is every possibility of creating more misunderstanding.
