Imphal, May 25 2011:
A women police constable has been arrested by Moirang police along with one of her friends in connection with a case registered against them for allegedly selling a nine-year old boy to a hotel.
Constable Laishram Indrani Devi (37), a resident of Khurai Lamlong in Imphal east and posted at Moirang PS as a traffic control police personnel, and her friend Hemam Bina Devi (40) of Moirang Okshongbung were absconding since Moirang PS registered a case against them in compliance with a directive of the Bishnupur CJM.
The CJM directed Moirang police to investigate into a petition filed by a woman seeking justice when her grandson was taken away by the two women and subsequently sold to a hotel at Khabeisoi.
In the case the petitioner, Sorojini, alleged that her grand son, studying in Class-IV at Konjeng JB School, was taken away by the woman constable who was residing at the house of Bina at her neighbourhood.
Following the directive of the Bishnupur CJM, Moirang police had been searching for the woman constable and her friend Bina Devi after registering a case under section of 367 of the IPC, related to abduction.
Her grandson was missing since March 27 but after a search it was revealed that he was lured away by the woman constable in collusion with Bina and that she, Sorojini came to know of this fact only recently.
The boy was rescued in the last week of March this year but the two accused women had remained at large.
Police arrested the woman constable and her friend yesterday around 5.30 pm and have started an investigation into the case, a source said.
