Imphal, October 23 2013:
Committee on Protection of Land in Border fencing (CPLBF), Manipur has thanked the Deputy Chief Minister Gaikhangam, MLAs and representatives of all political parties who visited Moreh and inspected the controversial border fencing.
In a press release, CPLBF expressed strong belief that as the visiting team have seen the ground reality, the State Government and all political parties would take up necessary steps immediately to save Manipur's land from being discarded at Myanmar's disposal.
Reiterating its demands, CPLBF urged that all works relating to construction of the fencing including clearing of land on which the fencing is to be constructed should be stopped immediately.
All political party team must ensure that the State Govt put pressure on the Centre to expedite diplomatic process to conduct a joint resurvey and re-demarcation of the India-Myanmar boundary (Manipur portion) along with Myanmarese Govt, the release read.
It stated, Choro Khunou in Ukhrul district and Molcham in Chandel district should not be given away to Myanmar in exchange of retaining Moreh.
No area of Manipur should be bargained.
"Who authorised erection of the so called Sub Pillars in between Border Pillars, and why wasn't the State Govt aware of these stones?", asked in the press release.
It also asked, "If the fencing is Security Fencing, according to the AR, then how could the Myanmarese villagers come close to the fencing, not leaving even one foot's space, to cut trees and bushes for cultivation?" .
CPLBF believed that all the inspecting dignitaries would have observed it as well, it said and asked "Would it be right on part of the State Govt to wait for the Centre to make the initiative?" .
The press release then stated, "The State Govt should take up certain steps on its own as it is its own boundary.
People of Manipur have an important question that who are protecting India (Manipur)-Myanmar boundary? If the Assam Rifles don't know and don't care where the exact boundary lies, what is the point of deploying this Para Military Force at the border?" .
It is time the State Govt seriously think of deploying another security force who would earnestly look after and protect the border.
CPLBF will not remain silent if the State Govt and the Centre do not act in a short time, it added.
