Seminar on Loktak conservation ends

The two day campaign organised jointly by Loktak Brigade of Red Shield Division and Loktak Development Authority concluded with an impressive seminar on 'Conserving and Managing Loktak' at INA Hall, Moirang, said a PIB (DW) release.
While Deputy GOC of Red Shield Division Brig RS Grewal presented the inaugural address to the gathering which included the local populace of Loktak areas and several top officials, Principal Secretary (Forest & Environment) Dr J Suresh Babu delivered the key note address which stressed on the participation of people in conserving Loktak Lake.
All the well known speakers took the opportunity to address the apprehensions of inhabitants around the Lake and the actions by the Government to resolve thereby consolidating the process of community based management, the release conveyed.
The seminar was reportedly conducted in two sessions with the first aimed at 'Identifying the Issues' moderated by Retd VC (MU) Dr H Tombi Singh, which was followed by introduction to Historical and Cultural Perspective of Loktak Lake by President, Moirang Thangjing Yangeirol Marup Hemamcha Sobha.
Ritesh Kumar of WISA, New Delhi deliberated on 'Challenges for Integrated Management of Loktak Lake, while Reader (Retd) DM College of Science Dr Khangenbam Shamungou elaborated on Ecological Issues.
Livelihood Issues of Loktak Community were deliberated upon by Prof (Retd) Ksh Bimola Devi as Ningthoujam Chaoba, National Awardee, articulated 'Local Community Interests & Aspirations.
The Loktak Lake Management Concept of LDA was elucidated by Th Ibobi Singh Project Director LDA.
Security Forces Perspective was given by Colonel Naresh Bhardwaj, Commandant 33 Assam Rifles during the first session.
The second session aimed at 'Saving the Loktak' was moderated by Dean, School of Social Sciences (MU) Prof Amar Yumnam followed by Ng Sanajaoba Meitei, Project coordinator, LDA speaking on effort under the Short Term Action Plan; Ch Momon Singh, LLM, Lecturer LMS Law college on the Manipur Loktak Lake (Protection) Act 2006, Haobijam Kulla, Retd Lecturer Manipur College on Community Perspective of Loktak Regulation; and Loktak Lake Vision 2015 by Th Ibobi Singh, Project Director, LDA.
