VDF Welfare Association appeals for salary hike

A press meet of the All Manipur VDF Welfare Association was held at Manipur Press Club today.
All India Trade Union Congress, Manipur president Dr Moirangthem Nara, All Manipur Bar Association president Khaidem Mani (Advocate), All India Trade Union Congress Manipur secretary L Sotinkumar Singh, All Manipur Working Journalist Union president Wangkhemcha Shyamjai, Manipur Finance and Business Limited N Santa Singh, secretary of Senior Citizen for Society Prof Sadananda Singh and All India Youth Federation president Ch Sharat Singh attended the conference as the chief guest, president and guests of honour.
The All Manipur VDF Welfare Association president Md Sana while speaking to mediapersons in today's press meeting informed that it has submitted a memorandum to the authorities concerned appealing for a salary hike for the VDFs of Manipur, until which the VDFs would not work on holidays.
Md Sana further stated that the present salary of a VDF personnel is Rs 5000 including ration allowance.
However, Rs 1000 is being deducted from every salary for the meals which are being provided in camps.
The VDF personnel have been serving duties on all holidays including Sundays.
Police personnel on the other hand get a month's salary extra per annum for working on holidays.
Likewise, the salary for VDF personnel should also be revised in the same way, Md Sana added.
He also appealed to the State Government to hike the salary by Rs 10000 with effect from this year.
The association has submitted a memorandum to the Governor, Chief Minister, Home Minister and DGP of Manipur which would be submitted to the Prime Minister and the Union Home Minister if their demands are not met, it asserted.
