Imphal, August 21 2011:
Following the detection of IEDs amidst the thick growth of vegetation along the Imphal-Moreh road near Lilong bridge in the past few days, troops of 28 Assam Rifles under the aegis of 9 Sector Assam Rifles conducted a cleanliness drive along with local people to cut down the thick vegetation.
In a statement issued to the press today, 28 Assam Rifles said that a number of IEDs were recovered along the said route in the past few days.
As the thick vegetation was convenient for concealing the IEDs, the troops along with the local people decided to trim it.
The thick vegetation also acted as a hindrance to the surveillance of the security personnel, said the statement further.
Safe passage over this route is important as the traffic volume passing the area is high, said the statement and added that the local people extended all their support in clearing the vegetation.
