Imphal, April 21 2021:
After the RIMS community condemned several student bodies' attempt to storm the Administrative Block of the institute yesterday, the Justice For Sanaton Athokpam has asked whether the RIMS community truly grieves for Sanaton Athokpam.
Yesterday, the RIMS community including its student body, teaching and non-teaching staff had condemned the incident while stating that they share the pain of the bereaved family members.
However, these bodies (RIMS community) were not there to console the bereaved family members.
Even weeks after Sanaton's death, they never enquired and visited the family members till today, said Justice For Sanaton Athokpam in a statement.
Pointing fingers at the RIMS student community, the Justice For Sanaton Athokpam categorically asserted that the student union had earlier asked the Medical Superintendent not to let the police take the statements of the students regarding the death.
"Why is the RIMS student union against the police taking their statements? Why are they silent on the death of their fellow student.
Wasn't Sanaton a student of RIMS? Why hasn't any of the students visited the bereaved family yet ?" the JAC asked.
The JAC further stated that the size of the protesters was minimal and all COVID-19 SOPs were followed.
In addition, the protest took place at the Administrative Block which is far from the hospital and college blocks.
"Let's not waste time by engaging in a war of words in the media.
As RIMS is loved, the same should be felt for Sanaton.
Like the community wants RIMS to be free of disturbances, let's make it happen by bringing out the truth behind Sanaton's death.
The movement is not only for Sanaton only but for the entire RIMS," said the Justice For Sanaton Athokpam urging the RIMS community to join the cause for justice for Sanaton.
Meanwhile, the Patient Welfare Committee of RIMS has also condemned the incident yesterday.
In a statement issued by the institution, the Patient Welfare Committee reiterated that the RIMS authorities have so far given all cooperation in the police investigation and the Magisterial enquiry in the death of Sanaton Athokpam.
The members felt aggrieved by the loss of the bright student and are committed to do everything so that justice is done to late Sanaton Athokpam, it said.
The hospital should be allowed to function normally without any disturbance as it is an institute serving the cause of many patients and their families.
"This is all the more important in this trying time of the second wave of COVID-19 to allow the RIMS function without any disturbance to take care of the ever increasing COVID-19 patients," said the committee.
