RWO, AMADA condemn 'assault' on lady doctor

Imphal, June 20 2020:
The Rongmei Women Organisation (Rongmei Luh Phuam) Assam, Manipur and Nagaland have condemned the alleged physical assault, verbal abuse and attempt to cause grievous hurt to a Rongmei lady doctor by the male inmates at Don Bosco School Quarantine Centre, Tamenglong village on June 16 .
Dr Ruby Pamei, resident of Tamenglong village, who is a medical officer of District Hospital, was on duty as Rapid Response Team when she was allegedly attacked by a group of male inmates of the quarantine centre both physically and verbally.
Expressing serious concern, the organisation in its statement said that the incident violates the Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) of COVID-19 .
The statement also claimed that only one person was detained while the others were released.
Condemning such unlawful activities, the organisation has demanded the Government to arrest and detain those inmates involved and for the Manipur State Disaster Management Authority to immediately set up impartial, independent investigation committee to ascertain the facts leading to the incident.
The All Manipur AYUSH Doctors' Association has also strongly condemned the incident and demanded that the involved persons be booked under the Epidemic Disease (Amendment) Ordinance, 2020 .
