Imphal, March 20 2013:
As a part of its campaign aimed at checking substance abuse and consumption of liquor, specifically ahead of the Yaoshang festival, volunteers of Rising Knowledge Club (RKC), Khoyathong seized 70 litres of illicit liquor in a special drive today.
apart from hauling up the liquor during the drive carried out at Khoyathong Polem Leikai and Nagamapal areas this morning, the volunteers also rounded up two drug abusers who were allegedly collecting money from autorickshaw operators by misusing the club's name.
Both have been handed over to their respective family elders with serious reprimanding, with the seized alcohol disposed off in the evening in the presence of local women activists (meira paibis) .
Speaking to newspersons, RKC general secretary Anil Sagolsem said that the drive was a follow-up action of the local youth organisation's earlier declaration that intense drive would be launched against substance abusers.
The Club's drive is to contribute its mite in the ongoing state-wide campaign against drug smuggling and substance abuse, said the secretary.
