ATSUM undertakes inspection drives, warns strict action against erring faculties

In its endeavours to streamline education in Government schools, colleges in the hill district of the State, a team of ATSUM inspected Government Colleges and schools in Kangpokpi district today, after observing the Govt schools and colleges in Churachandpur district yesterday.
The ATSUM team led by its education secretary, Kakai Singsit along with youth affairs and sports secretary, Lamcha Chongloi visited Presidency College, Motbung and found several Professors, Assistant Professors not performing their duties.
The team also discovered the fencing of college in a poor condition which requires immediate repair.
Expressing disappointment regarding the irregularity of Professors at the college, ATSUM education secretary said that such Professors with huge monthly salary (starting from Rs 50,000/- to 1 lakh) should feel guilty of their unethical practices and start performing their duty sincerely while cautioning that ATSUM will take up drastic action if the union come across such irregularity in the near future.

He reminded the Professors that most of the students could not afford for higher studies outside the State and the college is their only hope of getting education which the Professors should understand and put maximum effort for the welfare of the underprivileged students.
The ATSUM team also found the absence of proper fencing around the College and its girl hostel and urged the department concerned and State Government to renovate the fence around the college and the girls hostel immediately.
He appealed the locals of Motbung to refrain from encroaching the land of PCM and its the hostel but motivate them to take part in promoting the College.
He further appealed for a collective effort in streamlining the Government colleges and schools in the district.
ATSUM education secretary also urged the students to the attend classes regularly as the State Government is committed to fulfil all the shortage of the college in terms of faculty, infrastructures, etc.
He informed that ATSUM will pay surprise visits at all Government colleges and schools and any irregularity on the part of the faculty and students will be dealt strictly.
On the other hand, the team found many teachers absent at Motbung High School, near Presidency College Motbung and warned those absentees to report to ATSUM office tomorrow.
However, the team was extremely delighted to witness huge numbers of students attending the school and expressed its gratitude to the student community, their parents and guardians.
ATSUM education secretary also extended financial assistance to some students who could not afford to buy new uniforms.
The ATSUM team was shocked to find the hostel students of Motbung High School sleeping on the floor owing to immense insufficient infrastructure and expressed great anger over the alleged negligence of the authorities concerned.
Kakai Singsit lamented that this is the second time ATSUM has witnessed such condition in a hostel and sought immediate attention of the Education Min on humanitarian ground.
