Liquor drive : Over 278 litres of liquor seized from Imphal East

With Assembly elections barely two month away, Porompat Excise launched a special drive against storage and sale of illicit liquors in January 2 .
Speaking to media persons in a press meet held at Porompat Excise Office in Ayangpalli road today, Md Tayeb Ali, Inspector, Excise Department, said the department has been able to seize 278 litres of local made liquors and 44 bottles of India made Foreign liquor from various places of Imphal East district in the special drive that began on January 2 .
The drive was conducted by Porompat Excise in association with Porompat, Irilbung and Andro police.
All the seized liquors have been handed over the Deputy Superintendent, Excise, today.
The team were also able to collect a sum of Rs 51,700 as fine during the drive, Tayeb stated.

He has further appealed to the people of Imphal East district to inform Porompat Excise about the storage and sale of liquor in the district, if they come across any.
In the meantime, Yairipok excise personnel have seized country made liquor worth Rs 14,000, foreign liquor worth Rs 2000 and yeast cakes during a drive led by L Raghumani, Deputy SP, Thoubal excise and S Nilakumar, Officer-in-charge, Yairipok excise.
The seized liquor were later destroyed in front of Yairipok excise office.
Kakching police led by OC S Nandababu Sharma under the guidance of SP S Gautum Singh and SDPO Th Deshorjit Singh have also seized around one thousand litres of country made liquor from Kakching area today, reports our correspondent.
Kakching Ward No 4 Councillor P Sanahal Devi, Ward No 11 Councillor Ksh Jalajit Singh, Ward No 12 Councillor N Sanjitkumar and Ward No 4 Member P Babby Devi were also present when the drive was conducted.
