Imphal, June 17 2013:
Despite many appeals and sit-in protests, the Government has been neglecting the maintenance of roads at Watham Leirak and its adjoining streets, Yumnam Leikai and Lamphel for around a decade.
General Secretary of Thangmeiband Improvement Club (TIC), Elangbam Tomba while speaking to reporters has warned of launching violent forms of agitation which may include targetting the Assembly if the construction work of the mentioned roads are not started by June 20 .
It is very suspicious that the concerned officials might have lobbied and misused the sanctioned money for the maintenance of the said roads, he said while demanding the Government to produce a white paper regarding the said roads.
He also informed to ban Government vehicles from passing through these Thangmeiband roads from June 21, and heavy vehicles will not be allowed altogether.
These agitations will be jointly launched by TIC, TUC and THANIL he said while also urging the Government that it should assure the people about the road construction completion time.
It is unsatisfying that the concerned Minister and MLA do not convert their assurances about the roads into action, he lamented.
Jaan Maripham Lampak, the site where Capitol Project is built was onced the drainage point for the locality.
Now the water from the Project drains into the locality and floods the streets and houses, Tomba added.
