A one day dissemination programme on 'International Humanitarian Law' has been organised by Indira Gandhi National Open University's School of Law in association with International Committee of Red Cross, New Delhi at Jina Hall, North AOC today.
As chief guest of the programme, human rights activist Kh Mani said armed conflict in Manipur is occurring almost everyday with the general public left in a state of confusion as there is no compliance to guidelines prescribed in various international laws by both the State and non-state actors.
Appreciating endeavour of the programme organisers, he said in addition to need for participation of the masses to grasp an idea of international laws protecting human rights, there is still vast room for creating awareness among the masses.
In his address, IGNOU Regional Centre, Imphal Director Dr S Dilan said to check violation of human rights in Manipur the younger generation need to be educated on international humanitarian law as the ongoing armed conflict is bound to have its impact in the society.
As guests of honour, ICRC's South Asia representatives Dr Sanoj Rajan and Dr alexis Heeb also elaborated on the programme theme.
