Titular king's nomination as BJP candidate draws flaks from militant groups

Imphal, March 14 2020: Referring to the offering of BJP ticket to titular king Lei-shemba Sanajaoba by the NDA Government for elec-tion to the Rajya Sabha, the proscribed PREPAK has alleged that the Government of India's move is aimed at filling up the flaws and lapses of the Manipur Merger Agreement signed on September 21, 1949 at Shillong and thus complete the incomplete political process.

A statement issued by the outfit's publicity and propaganda secretary-in-charge LeibaakNgaakpa Luwang alleged that the merger of Manipur was done forcibly under duress in total contravention of National and international laws.

The Government of India's move to get the titular king elected to the Rajya Sabha is an attempt to answer the many questions surrounding the forced merger.

The new move is a part of BJP-led NDA Government's vision to transform India into a one language, one religion, Hindu exclusive country by 2025.Scrapping of Article 370 from Jammu and Kashmir and enforcement of Citizenship Amendment Act were also driven by the same vision, it said.

Pointing out that the titular king is only a figurehead in terms of cultural, customary and religious activities bereft of any political power, the outfit claimed that the Government of India's attempt to complete the incomplete process of alleged annexation by giving the title of MP to the titular king would not be fruitful.

The sovereignty of Kangleipak is recognised by the Anglo-Kangleipak Treaty of 1762 and also the Treaty of Yandaboo of February 24, 1826 .

Kangleipak remained an independent country till 1891, it pointed out.

The independence of Manipur is mentioned in several verdicts of the Supreme Court of India.

Moreover, Article 2(1) and II Act, Section 7(1)b of the United Nations Charter give equal juridical status to Kangleipak and India, it claimed.

Several rulings passed by the Supreme Court of India with regard to the privy purse between 1958 and 1993 termed Kangleipak as a 'fully independent and sovereign country'.

Asserting that king Bodhchandra was just a constitutional head without any political power when the Merger Agreement was signed in 1949, the outfit contended that the same agreement is invalid in accordance to the Articles 7, 8, 49, 51 and 52 of the Vienna Convention on the Law of Treaties, 1969.The Kangleipak (Manipur) Merger Agreement, 1949 is invalid and cannot be called an agreement as per the United Nations Charter and the Principles of Customary International Law, it asserted.

Leishemba Sanajaoba's decision to join the Indian Parliament exposes his lack of pride on being the constitutional head of a Nation.

His decision further projects the liberation movement in a very bad light.

The outfit then appealed to the titular king to review his decision.
