CM inaugurates Manipur's first milk processing plant

Chief Minister Okram Ibobi today inaugurated Manipur's first milk processing plant at Thoubal Wangmataba today.
The plant is being run by YVU Milk Producer Company Ltd under Youth Volunteers Union, Thoubal.
Chief Minister Okram Ibobi and Wangkhem AC MLA and IPR and MI Parliamentary Secretary K Meghachandra attended the inauguration function as chief guest and president respectively.
Chartered Accountant Ksh Kunjabi and YVU president Ningombam Satyabati and Animal and Husbandry Department retired Joint Director Dr Maibam Rajendro were also present at the function as guests of honour.
O Ibobi while speaking at the function lauded YVU for initiating such an ambitious project.
Expressing hope that the project would enable the private firm to provide jobs to many unemployed youths, the Chief Minister called on the gathering to develop work culture to end unemployment problem.

He said that only 2 to 3 per cent of the population in Japan and China are unemployed as the sense of self employment is fully developed in these countries.
Regarding road connectivity, the Chief Minister announced that the road which connects NH-2 and Phouden Keirambi via Thobal College, Thoubal Khunou and YVU would be developed at the cost of Rs 3.5 crore.
With regard to drinking water, O Ibobi said that all the six Assembly Constituencies of Thoubal Sub-Division would get safe drinking water once Waithou water supply plant is commissioned.
Power situation would also improve in these Constituencies once upgradation works at Chakpikarong and other sub-stations are completed.

YVU chief organiser Tikendrajit Akoijam said that the plant was set up with an aim to reduce the problem of unemployment.
The project was started with the funds from Canada Luther Works Relift after setting up an organisation known as Dairy Foundation Farm.
Later, three societies and 30 home dairy units were set up with the funds from Indo-German Social Service, he said.
Tikendrajit added that YVU Milk Producer Ltd is registered under Company Act 1956 and the milk producing farmers, who are the members of the organisation, are the owners of the processing plant.

With the funds from Sir Dorabjee Tata and Allied Trust, Mumbai, construction of the processing plant, which includes a 5000-litre cold storage, was started in January last year.
The plant started production of pasteurized and toned milk from December 22 last year, he said and added that YVU Milk Processing Plant has become the first plant which produces pasteurized and tonned milk in Manipur, he added.
Youth Volunteers Union would provide 50 more cows to farmers, which would increase the total number of Union's cows to 260 within February this year, he added.
In the fourth phase, the union would provide 500 more cows, he said and added that a veterinary extension unit would also be set up soon.
