Farmers training programme conducted in Chandel villages

A 2 days farmers training programme was conducted at Purum Tampak and Purum Khullen villages in Chandel district from October 9 and 10 respectively under Tribal Sub-Plan (TSP) covering around 400 farmers.
During the training programme, improved practices of pulses cultivation was elaborated by Dr M Samuel Jeberson, scientist (Plant Breeding) and Kh Birla Singh, Technical Officer AICRP (MULLARP), Directorate of Research, CAU, Imphal, said a statement of United Tribal Development Project (UTDP) .
The tribal farmers showed utmost enthusiasm during the programme where cultivation of pulses like lentil, black gram, field peas and wheat etc, were taught, it said, They also interacted with the scientists well to take up the cultivation in the coming Rabi season.
Veteran NPO leader and UTDC secretary welcomed the Tribal Sub-Plan undertaken by the Directorate of Research Council Agriculture University, Imphal in Chandel district.
Under the said programme, UTDP encourages 400 farmers in Lainingkhul area of Chandel district and 200 farmers of Aimol area in Tengnoupal district to make best of abandoned fields for huge production of rabi crops, it said, CAU also conducted similar programmes earlier in 2018 and 2019 at Chumbang and Chandonpokpi villages teaching cultivation of wheat, field pea and lentil, it said while adding that it came out to be successful venture with CAU, Imphal buying back the produces.
