Steps on to club SSA, RMSA, TE together

The State Government has initiated a process of bringing together three Central sponsored schemes namely; SSA, RMSA and Teachers' Education under Samagra Shiksha Abhiyan as per an instruction of the Ministry of Human Resource Development.
The new initiative would allow children from 4 years to 18 years study in one school from pre-Nursery to Class XII, informed a source.
The new initiative will give more emphasis to technology-based teaching methods and teachers' training in place of infrastructure.
Under this initiative, schools located in a particular area would be merged together and the Government would soon take a decision in this regard, said the source.
Apart from preparing syllabi for different classes, SCERT would pay extra attention to imparting appropriate training to teachers.
Social Welfare Department would also take up necessary steps for merger of Anganwadi Centres where pre-Nursery classes would be conducted with nearby schools.
The new initiative has a provision of opening residential schools.
In connection with implementation of the Samagra Shiksha Abhiyan, a meeting of all the North Eastern States would be held at Gangtok, Sikkim on April 17 and 18 under the aegis of the Ministry of Human Resource Development.
There are 2335 schools under the State Government and they include 1507 Primary Schools, 474 Upper Primary/Junior High Schools, 295 High Schools and 59 Higher Secondary Schools.
In addition, there arp 401 aided Primary Schools, 100 Upper Primary Schools and 84 High Schools.
On the other hand, there are 927 private schools in the State including 42 Primary Schools, 268 Upper Primary Schools, 471 High Schools and 146 Higher Secondary Schools.
The total number of teachers under SSA and RMSA is 4318 .
Even though the total number of sanctioned posts for Lecturer is 2423, 843 posts are currently vacant.
Likewise the total number of sanctioned posts for Graduate Teachers (RMSA) is 5810 and 1719 posts are vacant.
There should be 78 posts of Principals and Vice Principals but 8 posts are lying vacant.
Against the total sanctioned posts of 780 for Headmaster and Assistant Headmaster, 152 posts are vacant.
As desired by the CM and the Education Minister, the Education Department would soon introduce a School Shoes Fund whereby shoes would be provided free of cost to poor students.
The authority would open a bank account in the name of School Shoes Fund, and its statement of account and balance would be kept in public domain, informed the source.
